X-ray QSO evolution from a very deep ROSAT survey
In the deepest optically identified X-ray survey yet performed, we have identified 32 X-ray selected QSOs to a flux limit of 2×10 erg cm s (0.5-2 keV). The survey, performed with the ROSAT PSPC, has 89% spectroscopic completeness. The QSO log(N)-log(S) relation is found to have a break to a flat slope at faint fluxes. The surface density of QSOs at the survey limit is 230±40 per square degree, ...
متن کاملThe colour of the Deep ROSAT X-ray sky fluctuations
We have carried out a fluctuation analysis in four bands (R4, R5, R6 and R7 corresponding to 0.44-1.01 keV, 0.56-1.21 keV, 0.73-1.56 keV and to 1.05-2.04 keV respectively) of two very deep ROSAT PSPC observations in directions where the galactic HI column is minimal. This has enabled us to study the average spectrum of the sources contributing to 0.5-2 keV fluxes ∼ 10erg cm s . The best fit spe...
متن کاملThe ROSAT Deep Survey
An unusual double-lobed extended X-ray source (RX J105343+5735) is detected in the ROSAT ultra-deep HRI image of the Lockman Hole. The angular size of the source is 1.7× 0.7 arcmin and its X-ray flux is 2 × 10 erg cm s. R-band imaging from the Keck telescope revealed a marginal excess of galaxies brighter than R=24.5, but Keck LRIS spectroscopy of 24 objects around the X-ray centroid did not yi...
متن کاملCosmological Constraints from the Rosat Deep Cluster Survey
The ROSAT Deep Cluster Survey (RDCS) has provided a new large deep sample of X–ray selected galaxy clusters. Observables such as the flux number counts n(S), the redshift distribution n(z) and the X-ray luminosity function (XLF) over a large redshift baseline (z∼ 0.8) are used here in order to constrain cosmological models. Our analysis is based on the Press–Schechter approach, whose reliabilit...
